Why hello everyone!
Cristina and Rachael here from 110 Yoga. As the co-owners of 110 Yoga, a yoga studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, we have the pleasure of doing something we absolutely love every day! We happened to cross paths with Dr. Ferro from Betr Health and a yoga-health collaboration was born. We are beyond excited to work alongside the Betr Health community and provide you with an introduction to the basics of Yoga practice.
Here is a little bit about us—we are lovers of intentional movement and seek to make a difference in people’s lives through yoga. Over the past 4 years, we have built a strong community at 110 Yoga through instructed classes, teacher training programs, and workshops. Throughout these yoga teaching outlets, we have studied the power of connection and the countless ways of how yoga practice changes people’s lives. It certainly has changed ours. Now, we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to also play a role in your health journey.
This two-week challenge will teach the basic fundamentals of flow yoga, known as vinyasa in Sanskrit. We know it’s a scary word, but its definition is simple: learning how to connect your movement to your breath to access a flow state (also known as the mind/body/connection). We want to make you fall in love with movement! It is a gift! And a healthy lifestyle does not have to be stressful. Yoga can be an aid in your health journey, making you feel better without demanding too much on your body. As avid yoga practitioners, we have found yoga heals our bodies and helps us maintain an optimal state of balance.
Now for the exciting stuff! This first series will focus on standing postures. At the start of each video, we will show you how to do the pose properly and then “flow you through” a series of poses. The instruction is slow, calming, and repetitive to avoid anyone feeling lost. By the end of this challenge we want you to know the flow sequence so well, you won’t have to look at your phone, but just listen and connect. We want you to feel comfortable walking into any yoga studio in your area and feel confident in how you move.
We hope through this sequence of poses, you are able to strengthen and maintain a strong standing balance pose. We start this series standing with hopes that every BODY has accessibility to standing. Standing is functional to the longevity of our health.
As we progress through the videos, we will work on alignment and incorporate movement focused on supporting ourselves safely on our hands and with a strong connection to our core. A strong core helps prevent pain and keep our bodies stable.
