The Benefits of Drinking Tea

Teas have been around for centuries and regardless of the season, tea time is all year round! Serve them hot on cold winter days or drench your thirst with some cold iced tea in the summer! The bottom line is, teas are fantastic; they come in many different flavors, and even contribute toward your overall health! Here are just a few reasons why you should start drinking tea!

Hydration: We cannot stress enough how important it is to drink enough water throughout the day! Getting your daily fluid ounces in can be quite a challenge but it doesn’t have to be one. There are so many varieties and flavors of tea, just pick your favorite and enjoy it unsweetened. This will be a win-win because you are also cutting down on “hidden” calories found in sugary sodas.

Antioxidants: Tea naturally contains antioxidants that protect the body from free radicals. Especially green tea and black tea have the highest amount of antioxidants and contain 10 times more antioxidants than found in fruits and vegetables!

Anti-inflammatory: Inflammation is a natural body response that occurs whenever something harms your body. While inflammation can be caused by an outside factor, it can also be caused by an inside factor, such as arthritis. The good news are, you can control inflammation by eating anti-inflammatory foods, such as tea. For example, green tea is not only great because of its antioxidants (as discussed above) but also because of its anti-inflammatory character.

Sleep: Having troubles falling asleep at night? Try one out of the many sleepy time / bedtime teas that are available in stores and online. Look for those containing lavender, chamomile, valerian, and/or peppermint and spearmint. Those ingredients naturally relaxes your mind and body – no need to take any sleeping pills!

Mood: Pick a tea according to you current mood. Are you feeling tired? Try green or black tea. Are you feeling restless and want a good night sleep? Try chamomile and valerian tea. Do you think you caught a cold and want to boost your immune system? Go for a cup of green tea with fresh lemon. There is a tea for every situation and every mood.

Cheers!
