How a Ketogenic Diet can be a Key Player during Cancer Recovery

Despite thriving technology and advancing research fighting cancer, cancer – let it be skin cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, or lung cancer – is a deadly disease. However, while most of the attention is given to those affected by the disease, early cancer prevention should also be highlighted. For example, the American Cancer Society, emphasizes “a strong relationship between excess body weight and increased risk of certain cancers.” In fact, one out of five cancer patients is overweight.

This is an important detail considering that cancer cells reply on glucose to thrive. Whenever we eat carbohydrates, our bodies turn carbs into glucose, or simply put sugar. Now does that mean that we can starve cancer cells by not “feeding” them with sugar? While more emphasis has to be given to the relationship between a person’s diet and the type of cancer, and more substantial research needs to be conducted proving a correlation between the two, there is a small body of research indeed suggesting such relationship. Consequently, a ketogenic diet, which focuses primarily on high amounts of healthy fats and high quality protein while keeping the carbohydrate intake low to moderate, could be key to cancer prevention and cancer recovery.

Generally, we at Betr advocate living a ketogenic lifestyle because it uses fats as its main source for burning fuel which is highly beneficial for our bodies and overall health. That’s why we cannot stress often enough to eat organic, high-quality foods because what we put into our bodies matters greatly. Why? Because whenever we eat food, digestive enzymes (proteins that work in your GI tract and speed up chemical reactions) are key to break down foods efficiently into amino acids, vitamins, simple sugars, etc. It is a common myth to believe that enzymes are absorbing the foods we consume, in reality, they only absorb the nutrients.

While some foods are naturally high in digestive enzymes are avocado, raw honey, raw meat and dairy, as well as fruits like pineapple, mango, kiwi, and papaya, enzyme functions can be improved by specialized dieting techniques and daily oral supplement intake. That’s why we at Betr developed our own Betr Enzymes which will support metabolic functions! This supplement is 100% plant-based!
