Why Use Intermittent Fasting?

Numerous studies show that intermittent fasting can have powerful benefits for your body and brain.

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting.

Numerous studies show that it can have powerful benefits for your body and brain.

Putting the body into a fasting state for short periods can boost metabolism, kickstart healthy weight loss, and improve energy and mood.

Other benefits of intermittent fasting include:

  • Reduced insulin resistance, which lowers your risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Reduced oxidative stress and inflammation in the body
  • Encourages cellular repair
  • It helps you lose weight and belly fat
  • Associated with cancer prevention, anti-aging, and improving brain health

Intermittent fasting is best known for its fat-burning effectiveness.

To understand how intermittent fasting leads to fat loss, you need to understand the difference between the fed and fasting states.

Your body is in the fed state when digesting and absorbing food.

Typically, the fed state starts when you begin eating and lasts for three to five hours as your body digests and absorbs your food.

In the fed state, it’s harder for your body to burn fat because your insulin levels are higher.

After that time, your body goes into the post-absorptive state, which is a fancy way of saying that your body isn’t processing a meal.

The post-absorptive state lasts for 8 to 12 hours after your last meal, and then you enter the fasting state

It is much easier for your body to burn fat in the fasting state because your insulin levels are low.

There are many different approaches to intermittent fasting.

Betr focuses on extending your nighttime fast (while sleeping) into the morning.

If you’re able, we recommend waiting 2-3 hours after you wake up before having your first food.

Extending your nighttime fast lengthens the overnight fat-burning process.

This extended fast isn’t a requirement of the program, though!

We want you to listen to your body!

If you need to eat earlier to fuel activity, or because of a non-standard work schedule, talk to your Betr coach to customize your eating schedule.

If you take morning medication that requires food, or if a healthcare provider has recommended eating parameters for you- always listen to your doctor!

One of the most important rules of Betr is this: If you are hungry- EAT

Betr is a program of nourishment, not punishment!
