- Place beef and the cabbage, celery, tomatoes, and onion in a Crock-Pot.
- Add tomato paste, broth, water, and stir until everything is mixed well.
- Then, stir in the garlic, basil, oregano, celery seed, salt and pepper. You can also add cayenne for some spicy kick to your stew.
- Cook on medium heat in the Crock-Pot for 3-4 hours.
- You can also set the Crock-Pot on low if you plan to let the soup cook all day.
- Enjoy!

It was a good base, but I would replace the basil and oregano with something more savory like thyme and/or sage. I think the basil/oregano gave it an odd sweetness/bitterness, that I didn’t care for. It was very easy to do and next time I’ll try different herbs.
This recipe tasted good, but I wouldn’t call it a stew, it is definitely a soup.
I added rosemary, thyme, chickpeas, and siete hot sauce. It was delicious!
I would replace beef with chickpeas too.
Has anyone made this in the instant pot instead?
I made a double batch and am cooking it in the instant pot for 35 min on the stew/meat setting.
Will make gain – but cut the amount of celery seed. I though it was a bit too bitter – but my family liked it.
I added zucchini, green beans and cooked
On my instant pot
I omitted the celery seed and the tomato paste, and doubled the amount of cabbage. I loved it. Will definitely make again. (Although cutting cherry tomatoes in half was tedious, I think they added a unique flavor you wouldn’t get with other tomatoes.)
